Yellowstone-Where the Buffalo roam and the Antelope play while lava bubbles 3 miles under!!

Debbie has decided to name our “mobile home”, Sunny.  We were kind to Sunny and let her rest for 2 days and 3 nights in the quaint town of West Yellowstone.  We rented a car to cruise around Yellowstone National Park.

Yellowstone is like stepping into another dimension.  A place in our universe like no other where the earth displays its wonders with special effects.   Yellowstone  Park is volcanic land, the hot lava is about 3 miles below our feet!  There are pockets of undulating land throughout the vast forest that bubble and spew very hot water and steam.  Sometimes the aroma is overwhelming due to the sulphur & certain natural bacteria.   The colors of this area of land, where pressure from underground cause it to steam and frequently erupt, are vivid and unique.  The outlying land is usually snowy white and the inner core is purple, pink, yellow, and orange.  The water in the pools within the center of each hydrothermal pot is a graduating turquoise.   My description does not do it justice…one must see it for oneself.  The entire vista is breathtaking and undeniably enchanting.

We also visited Old Faithful Geyser…. A superb water dance as the result of heat and built up pressure from underground.  We waited patiently for Old Faithful to give us a show and she did.   We walked along a boardwalk which meandered throughout the geyser basin.  We were not disappointed for there were many geysers and mammoth hot springs around every twist and turn.   We didn’t know where to focus our attention.  So much to see and learn, so little time!

Bev, Tom, Deb & Gary on the plains where the Buffalo roam
To top off our adventure, we were halted in traffic because several buffalo decided to take a stroll down the center of the highway.  You can imagine how the cameras were snapping away.  We thought that was amazing until we rounded the next bend only to discover an entire herd of buffalo grazing in the field just below us.   Hundreds of  buffalo were roaming the plains eating the grasses and selecting their mates.  The majestic bulls  displayed their dominance and nudged their potential mates to keep them separated from other males.  It was a sight to behold.  We could not bring ourselves to leave and spent the best part of an hour watching and taking photographs.  We have attached a photo of the four of us, Debbie, Gary, Tom and me (Bev) as we knelt at the top of the hill while the “buffalo roamed” below.  What a day!   What an adventure!  Can it be topped, only time will tell so please stay tuned for further adventures on our California trip.
